Saturday, January 4, 2014             10-11:30 am        Create Comics

Create your own four panel comic strip, designing characters and finding ways to communicate feelings and action through illustrations. This workshop covers steps 1-5 for the comic artist badge.

Saturday, January 11, 2014           3-4:30 pm            Intro to Bookmaking

Learn stitching, folding, and binding techniques to create their own handmade journal. This workshop covers steps 1 and 3-5 for the book artist badge.

Senior

Saturday, January 4, 2014             1-2:30 pm            Creative Collage

Create a self-portrait collage that includes words and color to illustrate their personality. This workshop covers steps 1-3 and 5 for the collage artist badge.

Saturday, January 18, 2014           3-4:30 pm            Knitted Wearables

Learn about different types of yarn and needles. Start a scarf or create a hat using a knitting loom.  This workshop covers steps 1-4 for the textile artist badge.

Investigate the different careers in art and the workings of an art gallery through discussions and activities.

Tiger Scout Workshop:

PUPPET Workshop – Tiger scouts will learn all about puppets as they work with their den to create characters. Tiger scouts will also learn about mixing paint as they create colors to decorate their puppets.

Electives earned: 15. Our colorful World- Mix the primary colors to make orange, green and purple. 21. The Show Must Go On- Make a puppet. Art

Academics Belt Loop: 3. Identify the three primary colors and the three secondary colors that can be made by mixing them. Show how this is done using paint or markers. Use the primary and secondary colors to create a painting.

Art Academics Pin: 1. Visit an art museum, gallery, or exhibit. Discuss with an adult what you saw.

Wolf Scout Workshop:

PORTRAIT Workshop – Wolf scouts will learn about drawing portraits. They will use a mirror and sketch themselves in pencil. Wolf scouts will learn to mix acrylic paints as they create their final portraits.

Electives earned: 12. Be an Artist
a. Make a freehand sketch of a person, place or thing.
c. Mix yellow and blue paints, mix yellow and red, and mix red and blue. Tell what color you get from each mixture.

Art Academics Pin:
1. Visit an art museum, gallery, or exhibit. Discuss with an adult what you saw.
2. Create two self-portraits using two different art techniques, such as drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, or computer illustration.

Bear Cub Scout Workshop:

MASK MAKING Workshop – Bear cubs will learn about making masks with papier-mâché. Scouts will draw animals and study the details in their faces. Then they will use papier-mâché to sculpt the animal masks.

Electives earned: 9. Art
a. Do an original art project and show it at a pack meeting.
b. Visit an art museum or picture gallery with your den or family.
10. Masks
a. Make a simple papier-mâché mask.
b. Make an animal mask.

Webelo Scout Workshop:

CLAY Workshop – Webelo scouts will learn about ceramics as they play with clay to create a bowl using slab-building techniques. They will carve designs and add glaze to their creation.

Activity Badge: Artist- 5. Use clay to sculpt a simple object.

Art Academics Pin: 1. Visit an art museum, gallery, or exhibit. Discuss with an adult what you saw. 6. Create an object using clay that can be fired, baked in the oven, or hardened in water.
