LUX Center for the Arts offers a wide array of classes designed to develop technical skills and creativity while encouraging students to have fun. Instructors and Resident Artists are qualified to teach all ages and skill levels in well-equipped studios.
Classes are offered year-round.

CERAMICS:
Clay Class Sampler
If you have never worked in clay and want to experience its many capabilities, join this class. Each week, create a different project with a new technique. Pottery wheel, extruder, coil, slab building, glazing, and working with slips will all be explored.

Play with Porcelain
Have fun on the potter’s wheel. Game at the tables. Wheel instruction includes centering, opening, pulling and trimming. Table instruction includes stages of clay, timing and slipping & scoring. Come with ideas for functional pottery and sculptural vessels, recognized potter, Amy Smith, will lead you in play with porcelain. Beginning to advanced levels.

PAINTING & DRAWING:
Foundations of Drawing
Focus on the fundamentals and the basic tools of visual communication. Lessons focus on shading, perspective, proportion, and composition. You must provide your own paints. A materials list will be provided.

Observational Painting
Observe objects around you and then paint them with acrylics. Both traditional and contemporary painting techniques will be discussed. Topics include: choosing a palette, mixing paint, color theory, composition and design, and materials. You must provide your own paints. A materials list will be provided.

METALS & JEWELRY:
Essential Jeweler’s Skills
Gain an understanding of basic jewelry construction and design considerations. Working in copper and brass, learn to solder, make jump rings, and draw wire using basic jewelry making tools. Tools are available to check out over the course of the class.

SPECIALS:
Art Sampler for the Intimidated
Learn the basics of understanding and making art. Get an introduction to the principles and elements of art while alternating art media each week. Tackle beginning level art projects with step-by-step instruction in pottery, painting, drawing, glass fusing, and bookmaking.

Date Nights:
Looking for a special and unique evening out? Bring your date, spouse, or partner for an evening of romance and art making. Whether it is your first date or your 50th, you’ll spend a creative evening playing in clay, creating a print or collaborating on a painting. Materials and snacks provided. Register together with 4 or more couples to create your own Date Night.

Girls’ Night Out
Get your lady friends together for an inspiring girls’ night out! Have fun and be creative at the same time! Materials and snacks provided. 5 or more ladies may create their own Girl’s Night Out when registering as a group.
