LUX Center for the Arts offers a wide array of classes designed to develop technical skills and creativity while encouraging students to have fun. Instructors and Resident Artists are qualified to teach all ages and skill levels in well-equipped studios.  Classes are offered year-round.

Intro to Needle Felting
In this beginners workshop you will learn the principles and processes of needle felting.  “Paint with wool” to create a flatwork using loose wool fibers and a barbed needle. Then graduate to a 3D needle felt piece, both with a winter theme.

Found-Object Jewelry
Bring your own memorabilia or household treasures to transform into wearable art. Learn ways of attaching objects to metals through hot and cold connections. Explore expressive possibilities and techniques of integrating limitless materials. Materials provided.

Hot Wax/Cool Art: Learn to Paint With Encaustic
Experience the quick effects and luminousity of wax paint. Brush, scrape, layer, and glaze wax on wood panels. All materials provided. Beginners and returning students welcome.

Wicked Wax Transfers
Turn your drawings and photos into amazing artwork. Layer them, feather them or blow them apart with a heat tool. Add encaustic paint, oil pastels and graphite to make complex and unusual images. Students are encouraged to bring images. All materials provided. Beginners and returning students welcome.

Painting the Personal: Still Life Workshop
Participants are asked to bring an item with personal meaning from home. This item will form the basis of your still life in this acrylic painting workshop. Technical aspects of rendering form and using color will be explored, as well as how to convey meaning and expression through paint. Materials provided.

Bookbinding Workshop: Hand-Stitched Photo Albums & Hardbound Sketchbooks
In this workshop we will try our ‘hand’ at handmade photo albums with ribbon closures—perfect for 4×6 prints and then advance to an 8×10, hardbound chain stitch sketchbook. No previous booking experience necessary, beginners are welcome!

Date Night
Looking for a special and unique evening out? Bring your date, spouse, or partner for an evening of romance and art making. Whether it is your first date or your 50th, you’ll spend a creative evening playing in clay, creating a print, or collaborating on a painting. Materials and snacks provided. Register together with 4 or more couples to create your own Date Night.

Girls’ Night Out
