LUX Center for the Arts offers a wide array of classes designed to develop technical skills and creativity while encouraging students to have fun. Instructors and Resident Artists are qualified to teach all ages and skill levels in well-equipped studios.  Classes are offered year-round.

Ceramics for Beginners—NEW!
If you have never worked in clay and want to experience its many capabilities, this is the class for you! Each week, create a new project using a different ceramic technique. Hand building and wheel throwing will be explored. No experience necessary!

Go Pro with Porcelain—NEW!
Cultivate your throwing skills while using porcelain, a clay body rich in history and possibilities. We will review the basics of wheel throwing and graduate into more complex forms and processes. Previous wheel throwing experience recommended.

Drink This! Ceramic Vessels—NEW!
With a focus on drinking and pouring vessels, students will learn basic forms that can be altered into teacups, saucers, yunomis, coffee mugs, and learn to make cream and sugar sets for morning beverages.  Then learn to make bourbon cups, beer steins, tumblers, bourbon bottles for afternoon enjoyment with adult beverages!  This is an intermediate to advanced level class; basic throwing experience is necessary.

Prints on Prints on Prints
Learn basic printmaking processes while using everyday materials. Foam block prints, cardboard collographs, and screen-printing processes will be combined to make multi-layered prints. No experience necessary. Students must provide their own paper.

Intro to Woodcuts
Take your creativity to the next level with an introduction to woodcuts. Learn how to carve woodblocks and explore black and white relief and color reduction prints. All levels welcome. Woodblocks will be available for purchase. Students supply their own paper.

Figure Drawing
Artists at any level of experience will deepen their knowledge of the human figure and hone their abilities. A live model will be present each class to help students explore the basic factors of drawing the nude: structure, anatomy, design and expression.  A material list will be provided.

Observational Drawing at the Sheldon Museum of Art
This collaborative class  is held at the Sheldon Museum of Art. Students will strengthen their skills in rendering form, proportion and perspective, while sketching from Sheldon’s architecture and sculpture garden.  A material list will be provided.

Art Sampler for the Intimidated
Sample all the LUX has to offer.  Each week will feature a new instructor and new art media. Tackle beginning level art projects with step-by-step instructions in pottery, painting, drawing, glass fusing and bookmaking. Open to teens and adults.
