LUX Center for the Arts offers a wide array of classes designed to develop technical skills and creativity while encouraging students to have fun. Instructors and Resident Artists are qualified to teach all ages and skill levels in well-equipped studios.

ADULT: SPECIALS

Recycled, Upcycled, Revised

The focus of this class is to step back and reevaluate trinket, treasures and everyday objects to see them combined as a whole. Examine proportion, composition, color schemes, and conceptual ideas while learning to create a piece of artwork from what you already have.

CERAMICS

Pottery on the Potter’s Wheel

Learn the basics of working on the potter’s wheel including techniques like centering, opening, pulling, and trimming. Make vases, bowls, plates, and mugs then finish your work with an exciting variety of techiques.

Mosaic Madness

As an introduction to mosaic making, focus will be on designing and installing small-scale ceramic mosaics. Students will design layouts and learn to thin-set pieces to concrete backer boards (or onto a small form or furniture piece you bring in). Experimenting with color, pattern, and pictorial elements will be your foundation for exploring design.

PAINTING & DRAWING

Figure Drawing

Artists at any level of experience will deepen their knowledge of the human figure and hone their abilities in drawing the human form. Students will observe and explore the interaction of basic factors of drawing the nude: structure, anatomy, design and expression.

Draw + Print: A Marriage of Two Studios

In this combination class, students will learn the fundamentals of drawing including shading, perspective, and proportion while discovering how to transfer these images into a print. Lessons will incorporate various printmaking techniques such as monotype and etching using a master’s printing press.

GLASS

Dichroic Fused Glass Jewelry

Have you ever wanted to learn how to make glass pendants, slide beads, and bracelets? In this class, you will explore dichroic glass, basic wire-wrapping, glass paints and decals. You will walk away with pendants, earrings, a necklace and a bracelet you have made. All levels welcome.

COUPLES AND GIRLS’ NIGHTS

Date Night

Looking for a special and unique evening out? Bring your date, spouse, or partner for an evening of romance and art making. Whether it is your first date or your 50th, you’ll spend a creative evening playing in clay, creating a print or collaborating on a painting. Materials, and snacks provided. Bring your own wine or other beverages!
