Bonnie OConnell
Recently retired book arts professor at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Art practice and teaching includes letterpress, paper making, book binding, relief printmaking and collage. Founded The Penumbra Press in 1972, a literary fine press issuing limited editions, and also produced limited edition collections of poetry through Abattoir Editions at UNO.
I have worked with relief prints and letterpress text for over 40 years and still love the unique means the media have to embed meaning and impression into a receptive paper surface. My work more recently had addressed social commentary and social justice issues, which allows me to combine my typographic vocabulary with relief carved images and other layered graphic effects.
