Arts Engagement and Community Outreach
Outreach to At-Risk Children and Youth
Through support from our community partners United Way, Nebraska Arts Council, Union Bank & Trust and others, the Art Van takes classes to low-income Lincoln Elementary schools, reaching over 600 students per year.
The school programs take place after school at Community Learning Centers set up at each school to provide additional support and opportunities at low-income schools. Classes are curriculum-focused and use National and Local Standards for art classes. National studies have shown that access to art instruction improves not only scholastic achievement but also self-esteem, social skills and connection to peers and the community.
You can support our outreach classes to at-risk youth by making a donation today!
“We cherish our strong relationship with the LUX Center for the Arts. Our kids benefit from the art classes that are part of our after-school programs. Kids who attend after-school programs are more engaged in school, participate in leadership activities and score higher on tests.” –Rik Devney, Principal of Huntington Elementary
