I delve into the multiplicity of printmaking and analyze the art as a method for creating replicants versus one-of-ones. Nature is a subject of humanities interest throughout art history, and I focus on the inert tendencies that my hand falls into that mirror images from the past. Like natural symbology I create schemas indicative of my personal relationship with the landscape. It becomes an index of foliage vocabulary unique to my hand. I discover this imagery working plein air or from reference photos. Practicing outside creates a foundation for my in-studio work where I transfer imagery through repetitive drawing, painting, or collage to make work representative of the natural world.
