Mandy Deal
Mandy is a fourth generation Nebraskan, whose family has a rich tradition of dressmakers and seamstresses, dating back to the 1800s. She learned to sew from her Grandmother Tillie and Aunt Shirley.
Mandy has continued to hone her craft independently. She has been making custom banners for clients, while also creating her own personal artworks since 2014.
Mandy's work employs the format of banners from the late 19th century and early 20th century to give familiar images a new perspective. Her pieces incorporate traditional applique' techniques to showcase the line and texture of the palette of fabrics and trims she finds.
Her eclectic aesthetic also draws from Steampunk, Dada, and the stylings of Nudie Cohn.
Utilizing a simple pencil and paper to make her patterns, and only needles and thread to sew them, Mandy's pieces are one-hundred percent handmade.
