Wuon Gean Ho
Wuon-Gean Ho was born in Oxford, and graduated with a BA in History of Art from Cambridge University, before taking up a Japanese Government Scholarship in 1998 to study woodblock printmaking in Japan. She later studied MA Printmaking at the Royal College of Art, graduating with a distinction in 2016, and then was etching fellow at the Royal Academy Schools in London. Currently she is a research associate and the inaugural editor of the IMPACT Printmaking Journal, an academic peer-reviewed journal published by the Centre for Fine Print Research, University of West of England, Bristol. These linocuts and monoprints in the Diary of a Printmaker series are from a series of over 170 images made for the artist's father, who was in a care home. I Send You My Hands shows the artist longing to touch her father in Covid times. The artist and her father were both veterinarians so two of the images are about shared memories and the absurdity of working with animals. Insulate with Cake and I Dreamed I Chopped Off My Head are about the stresses of solo living. Part diary, part postcard conversation, the prints were made to be humorous thoughtful images, packed with hidden details and narratives that allow for a slow reading of the image.
