LUX Center for the Arts Awards Scholarships to 49 Lincoln Students through Art Scholar Program
The LUX Center for the Arts honored 49 students from 23 Lincoln Title 1 schools with scholarships at its Ninth Annual Art Scholar Ceremony, held on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at O’Donnell Auditorium at Nebraska Wesleyan University. The event celebrated the recipients of $500 scholarships through the LUX Art Scholar Program, which provides young artists with opportunities to expand their creativity and further their artistic education.
Family members, friends, and community supporters gathered to watch the students receive their awards from representatives of the Pearle Francis Finigan Foundation and the Pace Woods Foundation, along with LUX Executive Director, Joe Shaw.
Each student was presented with an award certificate, a LUX Art Scholar t-shirt, and a bag filled with art supplies. The scholarships will enable the recipients to attend a variety of summer camps, classes, and workshops throughout the year, offering them invaluable opportunities to develop their skills and pursue their passion for the arts.
The scholarship recipients were selected by their school’s art instructors based on their artistic potential and the transformative impact the scholarship could have on their lives. "This program is one area where we are succeeding in providing art education to a diverse group of children, and we’ve been doing it every year since 2017," said Joe Shaw, LUX Executive Director. "We started this program with 12 scholarships, and thanks to the generosity of the Pearle Francis Finigan Foundation and the Pace Woods Foundation, we’ve been able to increase the number of scholarships each year. This year, we awarded 49 scholarships."
The LUX Art Scholar Program continues to play a key role in supporting the LUX Center for the Arts' mission to nurture the next generation of artists and creative leaders in the community.
