Education
Smith first touched clay at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio where she obtained a BFA. She continued her ceramic education as an Apprentice for Kaleidoscope Pottery in Easthampton, Massachusetts and went on to earn her Master's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Exhibition
Smith exhibits her vessels nationally including: Figuratively Speaking Companion Gallery Humboldt, Tennessee, Cupling CFile.daily Santa Fe, New Mexico, Yunomi Invitational AKAR Iowa City, Iowa, Pottery by Design The Clay Studio Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Celebrating Collecting Past Present Future Kennedy Museum of Art Athens, Ohio.
Smith throws porcelain forms that reference the quiet landscape of her youth and as a runner moving within that landscape is equally important to the content of her pots.
Residency
Residencies allow for full exploration of specific ideas. Smith has been invited to and accepted at multiple residencies including: Artist in Residence at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Short Term and Artist Invites Artists Residencies at Red Lodge Clay Center, Distinguished Fellowship at The Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences and James Rosenquist Artist Residency. Her most recent endeavor was an AIA at Red Lodge Clay Center, organized by Kate Fisher for Both Artist and Mother.
