Ashley Goodwin
Ashley Goodwin (b. 1984) is a U.S. photographer from Nebraska working in Richmond, Virginia. She received a BFA from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and is pursuing an MFA at Virginia Commonwealth University. She held a curatorial residency at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, was recently published in Don't Smile and her work is in the collection of Karen and Robert Duncan. In addition to having held numerous pop-up exhibitions, Ashley co-founded III of Cups gallery in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Goodwin's work reflects on systems of power that seek to admonish women and obliterate desire. Employing a “female gaze,” she documents new ideations of masculinity and representations of the body within her intimate relationships. With humorous irony, these images demonstrate the tension between adoration and objectification; dominance and subordination.
