My work calls back to youth fashion in the underground rave scene of the 1990s. Taking inspiration from the Kandi kid movement in LA, Gyaru street fashion, and speculative futurism in the 90's, I wanted to encapsulate nostalgia through clothing and blend it with contemporary materials such as plastic vinyl, 3D prints, and LED wiring. The maximalist colors, textures, and patterns are reflective of the emerging genres of electronic music during this time period and serve as physical representations of the high energy parties that took place. I imagine these characters could walk into any 90's warehouse and be welcomed with open arms.
