Artist Statement

Pots are one of the many daily choices we make to build our lives, and I hope to create nudges of humor and delight by having my work in the homes and lives of others. Using imagery of cacti, clouds, and constellations, I think about the myths, categories, and stories we create out of nothing to explain our experiences and surroundings. This cycle of observing, making, and observing again is what makes ushuman. I make the work my hands crave, handling the clay at many stages to imbue all the joy I can into each object. I love scribbling through slip, brushing off burrs, and the deep satisfaction that comes from glazing both interior and exterior of a pot with one quick motion of the wrist. My hope is that the energy I generate is carried through the firing and out into the world into kitchen cabinets everywhere.
