Peter Scherr
Peter Scherr
Peter Scherr was born and raised in Hastings, Nebraska. He is a ceramic artist – making both functional and sculptural pieces – living and working in Eastern Nebraska. Peter assisted in the studio of Jun Kaneko (1999-2000) where he learned and experienced the labors of a studio practice. He later received his BFA (2005) from The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, under the tutelage of Gail Kendall, Eddie Dominguez, and Pete Pinnell. He explores the dichotomy of studio and garden; evoking seeds in soil, water across dirt, and trellis overgrown.
I create utilitarian forms, both thrown and hand-built, in an ongoing investigation of clay, colored slips, and matte glazes. I continue to be inspired by domestic utility — the endurance of ceramic form and surface, the spontaneity of childrens’ drawings, and gathering for a meal.
