Time Well Spent
Time Well Spent
Time Well Spent is comprised of paintings created by Julia Leggent during her residency at the LUX. Julia Leggent grew up in Norton, Kansas, a small town located 10 minutes from the Nebraska border. She received her B.F.A. in Painting from Fort Hays State University in 2017 and her M.F.A from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2021.
These paintings are about time; they are a testimony of the life that I am living. Some represent a single significant moment, the point I fell in love with my partner or the daily decision to take a pill that prevents pregnancy. Other works represent a specific portion of time, the time it takes to grow eleven inches of hair or cook every recipe in a cookbook.
My paintings are meticulous and operate at a one-to-one, life scale. Making a painting with this amount of detail takes time, and there is a symbolic connection between the hours it took to create the work and the moments I chose to immortalize.
