Intermediate Wheel Throwing

Intermediate Wheel Throwing

Ceramics Center Manager
Program Description

Intermediate wheel students will build skills and fluency with clay by exploring the foundations of the pottery wheel with a variety of fun exercises and loose assignments. The class will begin with an overview of the basics (wedging, centering, pulling, etc) to build a solid foundation and help give students confidence to take on more complex forms. Students will learn, in depth, about the process of turning clay into ceramic including drying stages and moisture management, firing processes, decorating techniques, fixing mistakes, planning forward, and more.  Students will be given plenty of inspirational resources during class including demos, pottery examples, one-on-one feedback, and more.

This class is designed for those familiar with the basics of working with clay on a wheel. This class will use high fire stoneware and conclude with a cone 10 gas reduction firing. One bag of commercial stoneware, kiln firings, and related glazes are included. Students also have access to the studio during open hours throughout this eight-week class. Please refer to the Open Studio Calendar in the Ceramics Center for the most up-to-date hours. Feel free to reach out to Neil with any questions. This class is for Adults 16+.

Pre-registration is required.

NOTE: An art class or workshop running is contingent on a minimum of 3 participants enrolled 48 hours prior to the scheduled class/workshop. Cancellation notices will be emailed, and you may respond with an alternate class/workshop choice or request a refund. You are encouraged to invite a friend to ensure that your class/workshop runs!
